THE CHALLENGE
Aviva Canada’s L&D team needed a faster, more reliable way to see whether training was making a difference

Most adult learners forget around 70% of what they are taught within 24 hours. For Simran, that made one question unavoidable: was the training making a difference?

New hires at Aviva Canada go through a three-week onboarding program covering insurance licensing and product knowledge. Learners arrive with very different levels of experience, from people new to insurance entirely, to career changers, to those joining from other insurance companies. Before Kahoot! 360, knowledge checks were done on paper or in Word documents and reviewed by hand. The process worked, but it was slow to analyze, and the results gave the team scores without the deeper picture of where each learner was struggling.

“I wanted to know if what we were doing was working. You put so much effort into designing training and then you never really know if it’s actually making a difference.”

THE SOLUTION
Pre- and post-assessments with real-time analytics gave trainers targeted data they could use to adapt training on the fly

When Simran joined Aviva Canada’s central L&D team, Kahoot! 360 was already in use as an icebreaker. Her first move: repurpose it as a measurement tool.

Simran introduced pre- and post-assessments using the assignments feature. This allows her to run individual knowledge checks that each learner completes alone, without a timer or leaderboard, giving the team consistent, comparable data on what each cohort actually knew.

“In a training session, it’s easy to be a passive learner, you sit there and absorb information. With Kahoot! 360, you’re an active participant. You have to actually answer questions and apply the knowledge, and that’s what really helps it stick.”

THE OUTCOME
Final training scores up 20 points, satisfaction rising, and new hires who start their first day with real confidence

The results from Aviva Canada’s training program are clear.

  • 4.95 Average NPS score from post-program survey
  • 80–90% Average post-assessment score by the end of the three-week program
  • +20% Lift in final scores after switching from live to assigned Kahoot! 360 format

“When we changed it to an assignment, we got those 80–90% ranges for final scores. Now we finally had accurate data for what learners were actually able to perform.”

Beyond the numbers, learners leave training more confident. Insurance is a high-stakes field. Agents protect people’s homes, cars, and livelihoods, and strong scores make a real difference to how someone shows up on day one. Satisfaction has also risen consistently, with learners regularly asking for more Kahoot! 360.

“Our NPS score for our training has gone up significantly since we introduced Kahoot! 360 strategically. It tells me that learners are not just learning more, they’re also enjoying the experience more.”

HOW TO GET STARTED WITH KAHOOT! 360

Advice for L&D professionals ready to make their training more measurable

For many L&D teams, the hardest part of introducing assessments is trusting what the data shows.

“I was nervous about what the data would show. What if the pre-assessment showed our training wasn’t working? But the data is your friend. Even when it shows you something uncomfortable, it’s giving you what you need to make things better.”

-Simran Mann, Instructional Designer, Aviva Canada

Simran’s advice for other L&D professionals: design questions around what learners need to do, not just recall; vary question types for richer data; and use the results to guide what to change next. At Aviva Canada, that approach turned Kahoot! 360 from an icebreaker into a measurement tool, replacing unreliable paper assessments with targeted, real-time data, increasing final training scores by 20 points along the way.
